![]() ![]() UK Metal is the most for modern styles as it provides a balanced mix between sheer low end and high gain treble, and it's probably no surprise that Enter Sandman is among the song choices for this model. The higher gain models are always great fun to play with, and the VT+ provides more than its fair share of dynamic sag and spongy pick attack. Their authenticity does depend on what guitar you happen to be using - for example, a Strat is far more convincing with the Foxy Lady and Smoke On The Water tones - but the sounds on the whole are as good as we remember. We decided to dive right in and go through a choice of the song presets. "Our Valve Reactor design takes the 12AX7, configures it as a small low-powered push/pull tube stage and uses a transparent solid-state power stage to amplify things to a usable level."Ī power level control on the front panel allows you to alter the amp's output without interfering with the volume balances of your own presets, and there's also now a noise reduction system and an onboard tuner. ![]() Clarke: "It's a popular misconception that the valve is used in the preamp it's actually used in the power section," he explains. We've explained it many times over the years, so let's have an official recap. You can save up to eight completed tones within two channels of four presets and the process of choosing, editing and ultimately saving tones is very straightforward once you've got your head around the amp's basic infrastructure.Ī major USP of the VT and VT+ ranges is the provision of a 12AX7 valve. "It's a painstaking process, that takes weeks of listening, A/B-ing and tweaking until the models are perfect." "We designed our own unique system in which our DSP experts capture the essence and soul of an amplifier, take a digital snapshot of it and then store it away," he says. We ask Vox product development manager Dave Clarke to give us an overview of how the modelling process actually works. ![]() But it really gives you pedals and effects, for just 50 euros. You know exactly what you're getting with US High Gain and Vox AC30, for example. The VFS5 is a very nice thing,I did not see it so important at first. For the powerchords parts, I press again switch 1 and switch 2, it activate the metal distortion and deactivate the chorus. I switch off the metal distortion for clean parts and I switch on the chorus (I push switch 1 and switch 2 of the VFS5). Like I said in another topic, I use for example MEtal distortion as a pedal and Chorus as an effect, for Knockin on heaven's door (the Guns n roses version). Pedals and effects are wonderful if you have the footswitch.īecause you can activate/deactivate in the middle of the songs. #Vox valvetronix manualI much prefer the US Metal in manual mode and adjusting myself the setting, and the tone can be pretty close to the original. I still have some difficulties, for example if I choose the Sweet child o mine mode (US rock in song mode + CST mode : red and red lights) I found it barely usable, a lot of noisy sounds around my playing. Add some reverb, some chorus, and the comp pedal if you want to give something more. The "clean" amp and the "US blues" amp are probably the easier to start with, if you want clean sounds. So, be kind with gain and volume on some amps if you want clean sounds. If I use my volume at 10 on my gain and some gain of the amp, it can be pretty distorted. Some amp models, like the AC30 are pretty sensitive to gain. I usually activate the bypass mode to be sure to have just the amp sound. Just adjust gain, volume, treble etc.Don't forget to switch off the pedals and effects, because it can be confusing. Now, you can experiment this amp model, and you should stick with it for several sessions. He explained the best thing to do was probably to choose one amp model (let's say AC30 for example) and put it in manual mode (top left led is red ). So, he basically recognized that it could be very complicated for a non experienced user to find his way. ![]() He explained that custom songs mode has different effect like included to reproduced the original song tone. I start reading a lot of things, including Vox forums, and I found a great post from a moderator there. I had the same problem at the beginning with this amp. ![]()
